Checklist Extension for Azure DevOps
The Checklist Extension for Azure DevOps adds reusable checklists to work item forms. Teams use it for definition of done, release steps, testing gates, and any repeatable process that should live next to the work item - not only in external docs or child tasks.
Supported environments
| Environment | Support |
|---|---|
| Azure DevOps Services | Supported |
| Azure DevOps Server 2022 Update 2 or later | Supported |
| Azure DevOps Server 2020, 2022 RTW, and 2022 Update 1 | Not supported |
The current extension uses REST API 7.2 for project and team selection, team-based template filtering, and on-premises Premium license activation. Older Server releases might load the extension and allow basic checklist editing, but those features are not reliable. See Microsoft's Azure DevOps REST API and Server version mapping.
What you can do
- Add one or more independent checklists to a single work item, each backed by a template.
- Author templates in project settings, scoped by work item type, team, and project.
- Store checklist content in Azure DevOps fields (markdown) so history and collaboration work like any other field.
- Optionally map progress and completion to your own fields (Premium) for board cards, queries, dashboards, and work item rules that block state transitions.
