Licensing on Azure DevOps Server (on-prem)

Premium subscriptions are managed in our portal at checklist.fjan.nl. On Azure DevOps Services (cloud), Premium activates automatically once your subscription is active. On Azure DevOps Server (on-premises), you activate Premium with a license token instead: you generate it once in the portal and paste it into the extension.

Before you start

The License action only appears on Azure DevOps Server. On Azure DevOps Services you will not see it.

Step 1: Open the License dialog

  1. Open a project in your Azure DevOps Server collection.
  2. Go to Project settings > Extensions > Checklist Templates.
  3. In the command bar, choose License.

The dialog shows your deployment instance ID and a field to paste a license token.

Step 2: Copy your deployment instance ID

In the License dialog, choose Copy next to Deployment instance ID.

Step 3: Generate a token in the portal

  1. Sign in to the portal at checklist.fjan.nl and make sure your Premium subscription is active.
  2. Go to Azure DevOps registrations > On-prem deployment ID.
  3. Register the deployment instance ID you copied.
  4. Choose Generate & copy license to create a token and copy it.

Step 4: Paste and activate

  1. Back in the extension's License dialog, paste the token into the License token field.
  2. Choose Save & validate.

When the token is accepted, the dialog confirms the deployment is licensed and Premium features unlock. The token is saved for the whole collection, so everyone in the deployment is covered.

Renewing your license

License tokens expire. When a token is near or past its expiry:

  1. In the portal, open Azure DevOps registrations > On-prem deployment ID for the same deployment.
  2. Choose Generate & copy license to create a new token.
  3. In the extension, open License, paste the new token, and choose Save & validate.

You do not need to register the deployment again - reuse the same deployment instance ID.

Troubleshooting

The License dialog tells you why a token was not accepted:

MessageWhat to do
License token is not configured. No token saved yet. Generate one in the portal and paste it (Steps 3-4).
License token is invalid.Re-copy the token with Generate & copy license and paste it again, making sure nothing is added or removed.
License has expired.Generate a new token in the portal and paste it. See Renewing your license.
License is not valid for this deployment. The deployment instance ID in the dialog must match the one registered in the portal. Generate a token for the correct ID.

Tips:

  • Copy the whole token - tokens are long, so make sure none of it is cut off.
  • Use the deployment instance ID shown in this deployment's dialog when registering in the portal.
